LOL. I have to do the same thing to make sure that my RTS gets any food.

The pond fish are small bream about 2 inches long, we rescued them and added to the tank just to see if they would survive and they have been
in there about 6 months. The pleco has actually grown more than these
two fish. We've had no trouble with any diseases or parasites either. We use plain well water. Regular water changes get done and all the water
tests are normal. So maybe we're not overstocked afterall.....

10 might be pushing it with that large of a pleco (bioload-wise). Sounds like a cool tank, but I'd keep a sharp eye on your test results. As far as food, they should be fine, but I doubt the shrimp pellets will ever make it to the bottom. Tigers are PIGS, but very fun!

I've had pretty good luck with the bio-load on this tank. Previously, it housed one 12.5 inch oscar (RIP). The nitrates took 2 weeks to build up to the 35ppm range.... but I generally do weekly 40% changes anyhow. I run 2 AC70 filters and there is a fair sized mass of java fern in there too.

How large do the Tigers get? I've read varying accounts of their size and longevity.

Tiger barbs should get up to about 4" or so, and they get to be chubby little guys. 10 would be cool in a species tank, in a 55 I don't know that I'd do much more than that, it would just look cramped to me. You might eventually get rid of the pleco, as I'm sure you've learned, they turn into giant poop machines when they get bigger, and its not done growing yet. I would probably find someone with a big enough tank to house it, as if it lives long enough it will get into the two foot range.

Wow! 4-inches? Ok, I'm stopping with ten. They currently average about 1.5-inches.

Cool. 35ppm may be high based on what I've read here, but it sounds like a cool tank.

Mine are a couple years old (fairly new to me though) and about 2 - 2 1/2". I think they top out at 3".
