Can't have too many Tiger Barbs...

I've never gotten a good answer on this question: would dwarf cichlids such as Kribs or Geophagus be acceptable tankmates with Tiger Barbs?

I've read a lot about them, and I've given some thought to getting a M/F pair for the 55g. I know they can get snippy when they breed.

I've got a pretty good stocking level, but I have tons of plants, and really don't get much in the way of nitrates (always 10 or less). I suspect with filtration and plants I might be able to get away with a single pair of dwarf cichlids.

Opinions?

Bump.

I had 10 barbs, 5 green and 5 tiger barbs, in a 29g tank with a breeding pair of Kribs and had no problems whatsoever. The Kribs will get very territorial when breeding, but the barbs seemed content to chase each other around like a giant bar fight all the time.:flamed:

they will be fine with the barbs but be cautious of how many bottom dwellers you place in the tank..they willbe competing for territory there and the cichlids will definitely establish theirs.

I do have 5 yoyo loaches, so that might create some competition for space at the bottom of the tank.

I am also assuming that I would need a little more cover/caves if I get dwarf cichlids. What do you think based on this (not great) picture of my tank?

I would say it looks good but yes increase the cover a bit.

my rams love the driftwood tangles.

nice tank and add more drift wood
