What are some fish species that can be mixed with tiger barbs in a 10 gallon tank??? I hear if you mix them with peacful fish they don't get along. *example mollies.*
There could be some minor problems like maybe some nipping or chasing, it's temperment is higher then your average community fish, and it isnt too friendly to smaller fish usually. its minimum requirement is 10 galons, they can be teritorial so i dont know if i would get them for a 10g tank.
As for the molie, it is sort of a slow moving fish and it isnt recomended that a tiger barb is kept with slow moving fish so if i was you i'd play it safe and get something a little less tempermental.
The old school rule of thumb was that you had to have at least 6 Tiger Barbs so they would not be too agressive. I don't know if it's really true, but by the time you add 6 or more TB's to a 10g, you won't have room for much of anything else.
I wouldn't put tiger barbs in a 10 gallon tank by themselves, they're very active fishes that likes alot of swimming space. Small quarters may make them more aggressive even towards each other.
I agree with what has been said. tiger barbs will reach around 3" long and like to have a group to feel comfortable and not pick on a particular one all day long. a 10 gallon is much too small to achieve this group and adding anymore fish would result in disaster. As for tankmates in a larger tank, any fish that doesn't have flowing fins and isn't an easily scared fish is a good choice. I have a 36 with tiger barbs, green tiger barbs, albino tiger barbs, ruby barbs, gold barbs, an odessa barb, serpae tetras, penguin tetras, giant danio's and a single gold gourami I adopted. the gourami is actually the agressor to any new additions but the swarm of barbs and danio's would scare most anything like a molly, ram cichlid, etc. (I know It's overstocked for anyone planning to reply). If you want tiger barbs, plan on a 20-30 gallon tank minimum and make it a barb only tank. Most any catfish will do just fine with them for bottom feeders as well. I started with 5 tiger barbs along with the danio's and serpae's and they were fine in that size group. I suspect 4 would do just fine, 3 is hard to say because one could become a target for the other two if they pair up. You can mix any similar build barbs and they'll be ok. My gold barbs were a little shy at first but they get right in there and mix up with the rest now. the odessa was just added last night but didn't take a minute to fit right in. the ruby barbs also mingle just like one of the guys. Rosy barbs would also work well but get a little bigger than the rest. Clown or 5-stripe barbs might work but are said to be a little more timid and shy. Kyle
