I got a Tiger Nerite Snail recently (like 6 days ago). It has been very lethargic spending most of its time stationary. Originally it was semi active for less than 24 hours. Now it barely moves. I have aquarium sand for my substrate I don't think he likes it, but then again he isn't moving on rocks or drift wood much either.

Personally I think he is on his way out ... (dieing).

What do you think ???

I recently added nerites to some of my tanks. They are NOT as active as most other snails. I have a few in one tank, and all they do is stick to the side. They do move, because the next day they'll be on a different spot.

My nerites spend about half their time just hanging out on the glass not moving and half their time eating algae. They don't constantly move around the tank.... Not mine anyways.

I recently got 5 horned nerites, and 2 zebra nerites. The horned nerites are really small juvenilles, and I see them all the time. Not fast movers by any means, but they're visible, usually on the glass somewhere. The zebras on the other hand were almost the size of a nickel, and I barely see them since I placed them in the tank. One is just lying on the substrate and isn't moving. I'm not sure if it's dying, or dead, or not. I'm leaving it in there for now as I've heard that they sometimes go "dormant" for a few days. I assume if it's dead then either my shrimp would have eaten it or one of my assassin snails. I don't really know much about nerites, I just threw them in with an order I placed mainly for amanos and assassins... and some other shrimp too hehe ;)

Lethargic Zebras

New here, but having the same problem with 6 zebra nerites I just got in the mail. I thought maybe they needed food since they spent several days in transit, so I put them on an algae wafer to see if the readily available food will perk them up. Two of them are moving around and my olive nerite keeps attaching itself to one of the zebras. Lonely? I have seen my olive nerite hanging out with my mystery snail who recently went to aquarium heaven.

In my experience with them they tend to go in spurts. I've had the same group of 7 nerites for coming up on two years. I notice this occasionally. Sometimes I won't see them move for a day or two.....just stuck to the glass. I had one that I was beginning to think was dead after 4 days, however didn't appear or smell dead. He came back out after eventually and still kicking a year later! This seems to be after they have picked everything clean. They always come back around voraciously eating the fresh algae that has
grown. They are also good escape artists and will sometimes break the water surface for a couple hours or a whole day but that is natural. I wouldn't be too worried....just make sure they have good calcium supplementation, clean water and a healthy amount of algae. My tigers never go for the algae wafer however do nibble on romaine lettuce from time to time. Hope this helps! :)
