New to this forum but i thought i would take the time to register and say hi.

I keep a reef setup of 100 gallons.
Totally natural ecsystem with Natural seawater, liverock and mineral mud sump for filtration. I was running skimmerless until christmas but I am now trying a weak skimmer to see how it effects the balance of the system. Considering that the makers of Miracle mud now recomend the use of a skimmer on the Pro system i thought i would check it out.

I am currently building a new 220 gallon reef system and when this is setup i will then consider whether i should remain with the skimmer or without one.

here are a few photos of my system. The full tank views are a couple of months old so the white rocks (reefbones) are now far more coloured up. and functioning as liverock.

Nice looking setup, hope mine can end up looking half that good when I get it started. If you dont mind me asking....ever any problems with the purple masked angel nipping at the corals?

ever any problems with the purple masked angel nipping at the corals?

None at all. The asfur tends to pick around the base of them but as yet its never chewed on any polyps.

The Vunesta has (purple mask) has been a model citizen.

Just stacked. They are (or were ) very secure due to the fact ihave an urchin in the tank to keep down Coraline algae.

I did have a bad tank crash over the christmas though and had to rip the tank apart to get to the bodies :( The tank is now back up and running but of course the rocks never go back the way they were no matter how hard you try.. shame cos i really liked the look too :(

The reason i had a crash was due to a fish that i was looking after for someone got picked on and caused an outbreak of whitespot. Even with the UV, treatments etc i could not stopit and lost many of the fish (including the fish i was looking after). Sadly the Vunesta, Wattanabae, Achilles Tang, and male clown were lost during this time.

I have about 15lbs more rock to go into my tank, and I am always looking for ideas. There's 2 big pieces I'll use by themselves (not stacked), and about 5 2-fisted size that I'll probably pile.

The 2 centre pieces of rock were securely stacked together. this created a great cave for my Marine beta. But when irebuilt it, i simply could not get them to go back the same way again. at least not safely so i was forced to re-arrange the tank.

For now i am not overly bothered what the tank aquascaping is like as it all has to be ripped down again in a few weeks. I have a 220 gallon being setup so the building process starts all over again
