Preparing for a vacation here and am going to setup an auto feeder for the apartment fish. It's the kind with compartments so it's doesn't overfeed.
If I recall correctly it sets the time by when you plug it in.

Two things:
Does it set the time when you plug it in?.
If I'm feeding two kinds of fish and one is active during the daytime and rest nocturnal, should I like set the auto-feeder for early evening?.

Can you tell us the brand of the feeder? The one I had (15 years ago) had little wheels that you turned to set the time. Also...the only way I got around the different feeding schedule issue was to buy two kinds of feeders. One was the compartment kind that I used for pellet type food. The other had a screw mechanism that dispensed flakes.

How long will you be gone? Most fish can go for a week or so without food.

im assuming these feeders work the same way as a regular timer works; meaning, you have to set the time when you turn it on.

Since you have both nocturnal and diurnal fish in your tank, I would feed somewhere around 6-8 pm, so they all get a chance for food.

Why not try it before you leave...over a sink or something. That way you know if it's set correctly.
