Tinfoil vs. RED TAIL tinfoil???

I was under the impression the "red-tailed tinfoil barb" was another name for the S. prochilodus or flagtail characin in short. They are very different from the tinfoil barbs growing to 14 inches and are characins, not cyprinids. They were mistaken as another version of the tinfoil barbs before as explained by a friend.

I think you mean Semaprochilodus taeniurus...or sometimes mistaken for Semaprochilodus insignis.

If that's true, there's yet another reason why common names are totally useless. :wall:

Oh yes, I keep confusing the two.:headshake2: Thanks for the correction.:)

Just a note of agreement that the common TB in among the fastest growing of all FW fish. If it's a really big tank a group of 3-4 can be kind of cool because they'll school up even when they get over a foot long and are good dither fish with big cichlids.

I'm pretty sure the TB is a food fish in Asia.

I use them to cycle tanks because they are nearly impossible to kill and eat like pigs. Otherwise, I avoid them. I prefer Balas for big community tanks.
