tiny angels too small for my tank?

There is a local breeder with some tiny veiled angels for sale, about dime-sized.

I'm afraid they might be too small yet to add to my tank. There is quite a bit of current from HOB and canister filters. Also there is a pair of Golden Wonder Killifish that are quite aggressive with each other. In the past one of them ate several small danios, though they completely ignored some dime-sized tetras. He thinks the angel's fins will be too tempting. I'm afraid he's probably right and I'll have to wait.

The other occupants are 8 full grown congo tetras.

It's a 75 gallon tank, currently only occupied by the 8 congos and the two killis.

When I can find some, I'd like to add a large school of rummynose tetras and some corys. I'm looking for a home for the killis.

Should I wait for the baby angels to get bigger? How many could I add to my community? I had thought to get just one, but if I wanted more, how many should I plan on? I don't want to end up with a mated pair that will take on the whole community, but these are gorgeous fish and I wouldn't mind having 3 or 5 if it would work.

I'm hoping I can reserve the fish and buy them when they have grown a bit.

dime size are pretty small to add to a community tank.

at that size I keep them in a grow out tank..at about quarter size you may be able to add them.

jm, no offense, but he was ASKING if he could put them in, aka he didnt have them in ;)

Agree with the others - either get them now and grow them on in another tank, or reserve them until they are bigger....Angels are shoaling fish, but they can also be aggressive/bossy towards each other - one or 3+ is recommended usually - if you have one agressive one then the agression is not centered on just one other, but sort of spread out between the rest!

I have had exactly 0 luck in getting small angels to survive in my tanks, even in near perfect conditions.

That is about all I have to say about juvenile angels.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one whose had that experience echo.... :( I have two survivors after buying ten or eleven juveniles from various lfs. I felt like a fish murderer! Hopefully buying from a good breeder the OP will have better luck.

My two are pretty scrappy little guys. Still, I wouldn't put them in a tank w/ aggressive or nippy fish until they've doubled in size (they're nickel sized). I just went through too much to get them. And unfortunately, as others have said, they hate each other. Go with at least three. :o I wanted to, but...... *shrug*

Thanks for the advice.

Happily I have found a new home for the golden wonder killis.

My friend got about ten of the tiny angels and will grow them out in her tank, and I may get some of them from her later, although they weren't from the parents I'd hoped for. I'm probably going to hold out for offspring from the blond veiltails, they were laying eggs that afternoon. I think I'll go ahead and set up a 10 gallon and have it cycled by the time those babies are ready and grow them out myself, then use that tank for qt.

I did bring home a herd of albino corys.

Sounds like when I do get the angels I will get three.
