Just thought I'd share some new pics of my Elassoma okefenokee. These pygmy sunfish are, in my opinion, probably one of the coolest US natives around. I love small fish, and these guys fit the bill in so many ways. The males and females top out at about an inch, barely. My group is breeding quite regularly, and the males are maybe 3/4". So much color and detail packed in to such a small package. Obviously the pics are several times life-size. A couple pics have a common pest snail, and some filter carbon, which gives you an idea of scale.

wow very neat. I would totally would get some of these, where did you get em? Are you selling the offspring?

Thanks guys. I actually picked these guys up a while back from a friend in FL. He and some others got a permit to go collecting in the Okefenokee Swamps in GA. He brought a bunch back and sent me some. I also picked some up from another place, but I forget the name. I went through probably 50 of these little guys to select the best ones for keeping and breeding. Right now all of the males look like the pictures. They only display this coloring when in breeding condition, but from what I've seen, this is almost continuous. The females aren't so colorful, but are cute.

I do sell some of the extras off on occasion through my website or aquabid, but I also have a lot of local folks who want them too. Right now I've got a number of little ones growing out in some little tanks. The fry are extremely small (if you've ever seen tetra fry, you have an idea of how small, but these are shorter), so they need very small foods initially.

hm if the price is fair, and im sure it is. Please pm when you have "extras".

Send me an email. I'll be a lot more likely to get back to you if I have an email in my wait list folder. I don't really ship the babies, but once the sexes start to become apparent I usually can sell them. They're such tiny fish as it is, I wouldn't want to send them much prior to that. My main goal is to maintain a stable population, but they breed almost continuously, so I'm sure I'll continue to have extras. They are notoriously delicate/sensetive fish, so they're going to need a tank of their own, and they REQUIRE small live foods like bbs, grindal worms, micro worms, etc. Glassworms, adult brine shrimp, and bloodworms are too big. Fortunately, because of their size, a 5 gallon is big enough to keep and breed a small group.
