tiny tank

Funny part about this is I was at Petco yesterday looking around and some people with there child had a 1 gallon they were purchasing and wanted a fish that looked like Nemo. The employee recommended 2 clown loaches:swear:. She only recommended 2 because of the small size of the tank."Just fill it up with tap water and let the bag sit for 20minutes and your fish will be happy. Unbelievable! No heater, no filter, no tank setup yet,no water conditioner, and only enough water to last a human 2 hours in the Sahara.What is wrong with people, do some homework!

i was at care-a-lot this afternoon (terribly ironic name) and managed to talk a woman out of letting her children pick a neon tetra, a black-line rasbora (that was labeled as bumblebee goby), and a TIGER BARB for their 2.5 gallon tank (she talked the kid into a cherry barb instead). unfortunately, that's about all i was able to convince them of. i told the lady that the fish would be happier and live longer in a larger tank, and that it would be less work for her too, and that each of those fish would do better in a small school, but she wasn't into it. and the kid working in the fish department just handed them over. i was disgusted. (of course, i would have been disgusted anyway, based on the care of their tanks and fish.)

be strong little loaches, and be strong, poor little tetra, barb, and rasbora... v.v;

*shakes head about the clown loaches and other fish* Some people amaze me.

I sometimes use my 1.5 gallon as a guppy fry tank. Only until they are a month old (at the most), and only if I'm using my real fry tank as a QT or hospital tank. Right now, it temporarily has a very small tree frog in it (an inch, maybe...I know...too small, no need to tell me) until I get his tank finished. Other than that, it sets empty, the filter hooked up in a different tank.

You could try your hand at a vernal tank with Triops, Fairy shrimp and such. It'd only be a "part-time" aquarium, but it's something.

I got started when I was six w/ a one gal. hex tank. I kept a fancy goldfish in it for about five years. I called him Killer because he would kill anything else that got put in there. I'm sure it was too small for any fish now, but that is where I got my start in this great little hobby. It's a little hard for me to look down my nose at everyone who doesn't know better, I just chuckle and continue on w/ my buisness. We all started some where, got hooked, and finally learned better.
