Tips for hiding aquarium equipment

I hide everything behind my 22" sword, except my heater, cuz it makes me nervous :P

LOL Tabis....I remember a long time ago when I still lived with my mom and dad, my mom looked at me and said,"Isn't that heater too close to the plants, won't it start a fire or burn something?" I just started laughing uncontrollably and told her if she noticed the plants catch fire, to throw water on them please." LMAO! Secretly I moved the plant tho cause it was my nympaea stellata lol, and I didn't want the leaves to die cause of the heat coming off the heater....wouldn't tell my mom that cause I already felt like an *** for being a smarty.

The only tip I can give you for hiding in tank stuff is to place it somewhere where it cant be seen. :)
+1 ... lol!

A dark background helps with all sorts of visual flaws, imo. As for the spray bar, can you place it at the end of the tank, rather than the back wall? The current will run the length of the tank -- which, depending on the planting, might work great.

All my tanks have a painted on black background except my 55. And it makes it look much cleaner than the 55

Plants, plants and more plants. Also, if your looking for some intake or returns which are clear and blend in better than the unsightly grey, black, green, or whatever came with your equipment (I think these only work with canister filters tho), you can go here and buy them....

Those lily pipes are beautiful. They do attract algae, and are a PITA to clean. I've never bought them tho, with the price being so high, I never trusted myself to clean them monthly and not break one.

"WOW", for the Lily pipes and their prices.

As soon as my printing press puts out more natural coloring on paper, I must have them. Other than that these prices are too steep for me. :headshake2:

I forget if it was petco or petsmart but one of them now carries big cork bark tubes. I got one--I think it was under $20--and with some judicious sawing got it separated in such a way as to provide complete equipment coverage in 2 10gs and my big tank the 29g. Items covered include two aquaclear-type HOBs and one big internal Whisper in the 29, along with all functional heaters (which I keep next to the hob intake tubes anyway to try to assure heat distribution).

Of course they are floaty and I doubt will ever waterlog. I dislike the notion of siliconing them in place as I am always putzing around and moving things, not to mention it would require draining most if not all of the tank. So I get big smooth rocks of appropriate diameter and tie them inside the cork to make them at least buoyancy-neutral, then wedge them into substrate or place a couple of smaller rocks to hold them in place. No problems for several months now. :)

and for those who dislike the permanency of painting the back of a tank, or just want to see how it would look, go to a Hobby Lobby or arts supply place and get a sheet of matting used for art or photography hanging. Cut to size and tape in place. Or for smaller tanks get art itself--behind my 10g "Buddha" tank I have a print of a Chinese painting of mountains. There would be easier ways to hide hanging electric cords but in this case I just dislike the wall behind that tank. :)

Install an overflow and a sump and put everything in the sump.
