I have way to much java moss in my tank. I would like to get rid of some but I do not know how I need to ship it. Do I put it in a sealed bag with a little water? Air tight? Any help would be appreciated as I have never dealt with shipping. Thanks.

I always ship my plants with a wet papertowel wrapped around them and then put them in a ziplock bag. I don't usually add water to the bag, just leave the papertowel wet. Its worked so far. :) Haven't had any complaints.

I just fill the bag with a little water and tie it tight. Air doesn't really matter - if you're shipping with an envelope, just let most of the air out so it can fit in easily.

all my plants go out with wet paper towels around them in ziplocks.. have recieved no complaints yet either.

^ what I do, and I use the $4.60 (for <1LB) USPS priority letter boxes. They're free at the PO and they hold a lot. Since I'm in the midwest, it never takes more than 2-3 days for a box to get wherever.

I do leave some air in the gallon zip-lock baggies I use.

I wrap my plants in filter floss and a little aquarium water then it goes into a ziplock. If its going in a box I leave all the air I can for cushion.

Moss is pretty tough. I received some taiwan moss that was sandwiched between two pieces of cardboard in the regular mail and got here fine and grew great!

I tested shipping some Salvinia minima to Texas from Ohio. I just sandwiched the plants in folded paper towel, and double zip-locked (zipper seal, not old-style), no noticeable air pockets. I used a padded shipping envelope so shipping was $1.30.

Plants were safe, however, the receiver said the envelope was wet when he got it. Back to the drawing board. I think someone must have poked the envelope, or sat something on it that "popped" both bags (which I oriented differently by the way).

Next time I will do the same, just add a fish bag as a 3rd bag with lots of extra safety space.

Any other tips?
