i found this gnarly driftwood at the river yesterday, and it's rock friggin hard. it had been growing in the rocky cliffs before the river released it, and the driftwood itself is full of rocks. But along with being hard, the bark is also really hard and hard to remove.

any tips on how to remove it besides sandblasting that won't scratch it up? I'm going to toss it in the dishwasher until then and hope i don't have a big barky mess to clean out of the bottom.

thanks!

Soak it. You'll want to do that anyway, but it will soften the bark so you can use a stiff-bristled brush to remove it.

I'd used a wire brush

i'm concerned about the wire brush scratching the wood. or maybe it would just add character? :)

It would add character and if you didnt like it you could always sand it with a fine grit sandpaper to smooth it back out

lol, alright. I'll soak it for a while and see i know anyone with a pressure washer. if not, i'll use a stiff brush =) if that fails, i'll use a wire brush or putty scraper, then sand. this bark seriously feels hard as a roasted walnut shell!
