Also I've had success with them eating ghost shrimp (and it's cool to watch) so if you can get ghost shrimp for 4/1 dollar but a bunch of them and just dump them in your tank.

I threw some more blood worms to the surface and he came out of ornament hide but he would go up for them and he would come out.... I decided to leave so maybe he is eating or at least very tempted....
I will do that....it does sound like fun Il try that tommorrow too... will be experiment day tommorrow night dont know what order I should try though possibly let the shrimp loose first then at night the worms trials will begin....how does that sound?
well I kinda already knew its what got me fascinated me with them plus they have awesome coloration. I doubt they will get that big though (wish they would id like a wet pet like my turtle) however are you saying that maybe a 280 galloner might not be enough? most info site have said a 150 would be enough for at least one... thanks TS youve been a great help all you have

P.S. Hopefully someones told you that they will get about 3 feet long and 4-6 inches in diameter right?

well I tried ghost shrimp no luck the cichlids and bichers went crazy though... I tried blood worms they both poked there heads out but no go.... I finally went to the backyard and dug up some earthworms and success!!!!! they ripped them off the skewers and fought for them it was as entertaining as terribly shocking how they excepted them.... now I just have to go to a bait shop and buy some earthworms in a tub of 50 count

well I'd think 280 is perfectly large enough(I wish I had that). You should probably build a bigger cave/hideout for them though. They pretty much are always in their cave except when begging for food. I had a sand bottom (nice but messy) and now I have very small black gravel.

I was hoping it would be okay... as of right now im still searching for a fire eel (there pretty hard to find) il probably use pvc piping dipped in concrete to give them a rocky look or whatever....they must be predators your eels never have targeted you tetras because they must be well fed....
P.S. feed them by hand. Skewers are for wimps.
youd probably feed a 6 foot moray by hand wouldnt you
: actually if you read some of my other post my goal is to feed these guys by hand but skewers right now are helpfull mainly because I can manuever anything from the other fish directly to the eels really quickly and by hand I might scare them away... plus the tank is 30 some inches tall reaching in well you get the idea.....in the beginning I fed mine 1-2 times a day. Now I feed my fire eel about 3 large night crawlers every other day (it's expensive)
On a tangent I had a tire track eel with my fire eel, but one day I had a "fish holucost" (sorry Iran it did happen) and all my fish were dead in my tank when I got home from work. Except my fire eel who was dead on the floor outside my tank. I put him in a bucket of water and swirled him around and he came back to life. I've had him ever since.
