I sucked up over half of it six months or so ago and now its back to this...

I have hard water so as far as I know this is the only substrate that I can use to grow the plants I want to keep. I dont know what to do.

You can see the sediments on my plants.

are you talking about the algae, or the fish waste? or what?

The particulates of AS that dirty up my tank, cloud the water at even the slightest movement and cover my plants to the point of them being light deprived.

that looks more like fish waste. what size tank, and what kind of filter/water movement? i have a 5.5 with a sponge filter and the same thing happens.

It is a 37g with a rena XP1 supplemented by an Iwaki md-10L. I can guarantee that this is not fish waste.

What is your fert dosing regimen and are you running co2?

Yes, if you cant tell by the plants in my tank it is a hi tech setup. I dose NPK Ei style and have pressurized co2.

This is the reason it is frustrating. Most of the plants are not only hard to get a hold of and are finicky but to throw the added mess of substrate particles on top of it is crazy. A few of the stems would cost as much a s a 9l of the AS.

You can always send them to me, I'll grow a bunch and send them back to you:)

See the response on TPT.
Looks like CO2/KH issue, as far as the ADA AS, deep vac it, gently, do say 1/8" to 1/4" of the tank with a 50% water change, do this 2x a week, in 2-3 weeks, the tank's soil will be nice the fluffy.

I do this every so often, but I also uproot every so often while doing the large water change. If you really like these plants, bite the bullet, get an RO for your own drinking water, then blend say 1/2 with RO.

I had nasty tap in Davis, GH 18, and 52 ppm of Mg, KH was 16, I did a 3:1 ratio so my KH was 4-5 after.

Let me know when the plants are coming in the mail, okay:grinyes:
