Well
Read some posts and the knowledge seems a fair trade off for the sarcasm.
I'm guessing Nataku is in his teens.
The older you get the more you realize that you don't know everything.

I think that is part of the problem, He acts as if he's young and immature (this thread is the perfect example) but If I'm not mistaken he is beyond the teen years. Additionally most of our resident teens act their age on occasion, but not each and every time they post something. Trying to find a thread where Nat doesn't come across as rude at some point. those threads are few and far between if they exist at all. The knowledge is valuable, but he does not have a monopoly on that knowledge. So if we can find the knowledge elsewhere and not have the obnoxious personality to deal with why keep the negative. I still say Nat could fix the whole situation if he was so inclined, and that would be the best solution.
The fact that he is not inclined to stop the behavior is enough cause in my mind to take action and remove him. I don't think there is really any doubt in anyones mind that Nat is obnoxious.

I have to respectfully disagree with you, Dave. While I agree that Nat could certainly stand to be more tolerant and pleasant in his posts, I don't believe that having a crusty attitude when posting should, alone, be reason to ban a member.

Nat does provide useful information and that is an asset. The delivery of that information is certainly less than polite in some cases but it is useful nontheless. If the information were bad or nonexistant, I would certainly sing a different tune.

Trying to find a diamond in a ton of hose manure is not worth most peoples time. Though the information is very good, the attitude will lead newcomers, experienced or not, to other sites, thinking AC is a safehouse for the rude. I wouldn't want to see the knowledge pool here reduced by any means, but a bit of an attitude check would be appreciated. Nat, if a poster pisses you off that much, just don't respond. I have never had any issues with you personally, and have not found your attitude towards me to be offensive at all. But have more than once tried to difuse a thread that was getting nasty due to a bad attitude on your part. What's the saying, about honey and vinegar? Something to do with fry? Or was it flies? ;)

Enough Discussion!

BANNNN!!!!

That dangerdoll has been acting a little squirrelly lately as well... Becareful lady! Your on double super secret troll probation! :duh:

Point taken and as written I fully agree,

I think my point was missed a bit though. My point was basically, When Nat was asked privately to be a little kinder, or even publicly to back off it spawned threads like this one, With most people it would have spawned a desire to shape up a bit. There are plenty of crusty and grumpy folks around here that don't offend most of the time, and when they cross the line and are cautioned they back off a bit. NAt rides the line all of the time, but when he's cautioned he jumps over it with both feet and doubles up his fists. That will basically get him punched sooner or later.
Nat seems to think that the entire problem is everyone but him, and seems to have no intention or desire shape up at all. His knowledge and intellegence are evident, his experience is valuable especially when combined with knowledge and intellegence. Basically since the behavior is beyond acceptable, and he obviously has no desire to change his behavior, then there is no need for anyone to continue givng him opportunity to shape up. So In my mind the math is simple, he knows what is expected, he feels he doesn't need to adhere to those expectations, and no amount of reasoning with him will change that. That adds up to ban time in every case I'm aware of. If starting right now Nat would even attempt to shape up a bit, then he would deserve some leeway. I am not a fan of banning anyone, those who get banned do it to themselves. I still wish he'd just do the right thing in any of the many ways available to him and remove this question entirely.

Here's my opinion on the concept this thread represents, without being specific.

First, I never expect everyone to like me. I seldom go out of my way to be abrasive, and most of the time that means I refrain from commenting if I know I won't be able to do so politely. Sarcasm and irony are fun, but not always appropriate. Many moons before I became a moderator, I replied to a thread from someone wanting to know if they could add another fish to their already packed tank with something along the lines "Only if you use a shoe horn." Then I had to explain what that meant, and so the fun of sarcasm on the net bit the dust. But, I still do not expect everyone to like me, it's just not reasonable.

Second, the goal should never be to have everyone dislike you, either. If you're hanging around with a group of people, and none of them like you, you're either masochistic, or dumb. I prefer letting people pick one of those labels themselves. If enough of the group make it painfully obvious that your presence is not one they cherish, part ways. Peacefully. There are always other ponds to play in.

Third, if you think that the majority of the threads you read are worth swearing at, or cussing out some anonymous electronic presence, take a break. Smell some flowers. Take a mutt from the local shelter for a walk. Realize that this is a website, and if coming here doesn't give you pleasure and satisfaction, you need to stop coming in. It's just that simple. It starts at the top and goes all the way down to the very newest member. If responding to posts is a bigger headache than help, let it go.

And finally--if you start thinking that everyone around you is a jerk--you may need to make sure you're not surrounded by mirrors. Most of the times that I felt everyone around me was being a jerk, I discovered that I was being a jerk too, and others just reflected my attitude back at me.

Not that I see this as at all relevant, but NT is young (comparatively speaking)...19 or so?

OG, I like your last paragraph. Not just in relation to this thread (which has certainly by now served whatever meager purpose it had), but in general. :)

As for the secondary ban motion of Dangerdoll, I say let her stay. Those pants scare the trolls away! Heh. That rhymed.
