Just want to quickly interject there. I have a seaclone and do not have any issues with it all..It just take one simple modification and you get a far better skimmer...the inch or so wide tube inside the skimmer body, take it out, cut an inch and half off it, refit and bingo, a cracking skimmer...

What is FOWLR?

As for the skimmer, I've mentioned in many posts that I only have 3 1/2 inches behind my tank (to the wall) so I'm very limited as to what I can use for a skiimmer. I don't have the $ or knowledge at this point for a sump.

a CPR backpac skimmer will easily fit back there. go for the dual

What do you recommend washing the protein skimmer with? Thanks!

Warm soapy water and rinse very well with cold running water....get it back on the tank, and "hopefully" is should start skimming better after a while...
