Tom Cruise is an idiot!!

Tom Cruise is the man.

I don't really pay one iota of attention to what he does aside from acting. Celebrities only have this swing because for some reasons almost everyone listens to them. Who cares? stop listening and they go away.
If your doctor gives you medical advice that you find troubling, do something about it. If Tom Cruise does...ask yourself why in the hell you were taking medical advice from Tom Cruise in the first place.

So true. LOL!

Raskolnikov, you are so right! Another example of someone who has lots of experience in one field (acting), who thinks he is now qualified to speak knowledgeably about everything.

I'm kind of on the fence with the vaccination debate-I can't really see the use in giving a vaccination for chicken pox. I realize there are some deaths from it, but when compared to polio, whooping cough, and diptheria (I think that's the major ones), I can't really see a comparison.
My co-worker's daughter got whooping cough-she was too young for the vaccine at the time (six months, I think). Thankfully, her doctor knew at the first whoop exactly what her diagnosis was, so didn't waste any time in treating her! She had to do breathing treatments and take steroids in order to heal her lungs. Took about 3 years.

Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis, Polio, Haemophilus influenza type B shot (combined in one) is typically started at 2 months of age. There has been some testing here with the amounts of one of those (I believe it was Diptheria) to see if a lower amount (little d vs. big D in dTaP) is just as effective, with fewer potential reactions/side-effects. There are a number of other shots available within the first year. MMR (measels, mumps and rubella) is started at one year. I'm only interetsed in the rubella shot, but it is no longer produced as an individual vaccine.

My brother had whooping cough when he was 12 or so. It took a while to recover, but definitely not 3 years. No one else in the family caught it from him. I had rubella and measels within one month of each other. I was itchy and feverish, but didn't take long to recover. No one else in my family caught it from me. With all of those diseases, once you have them, you have life-long immunity. My brothers and I were fully immunized at the time (I have the small pox shot scar to prove it,) but there were no vaccines available for pertussis or MMR at that point. Most of the current vaccines have not really been available for all that long...and the list of newborn vaccines just keeps getting longer...how much can one little body take?

I see Tom Cruise as an actor. And - real good one at that. --nothing else....

Anyone remember Ed Asner and all his rantings? Who cares what they say and do in personal lives. I like my remote control. Change your batteries! :D

Tom Cruise is an idiot! When I see him on tv with that huge, dorky smile plastered on his face, planting repulsively excessive slobbery kisses on his child bride, I change the channel... And I'm changing the channel a LOT these days! :mad2: I look forward to a good, hearty laugh when it all goes to hell, just like every other Hollywood 10 week love affair!

With regard to vaccinations... My daughters are both fully vaccinated. I did not just "go along" with what their pediatrician recommended. As all parents should, I read the info and did my own research. I do my own research for all decisions that affect my children, from extended breasfeeding to the carseats they ride in. I understood the risks and I felt it was the right thing to do for my children. I don't judge what other people do with their children.

What I did do though, to make all those shots a little easier on them, is to break up the shots into separate appointments. Yes, I had to pay a second co-pay, but I'd rather do that than have my child get 4 shots at once!

I know hes just an actor, and hes not really getting to me on any deep level or anything, its just funny! I do think hes a good actor ;)

John Malkovich is a good actor.
Dustin Hoffman is a good actor.
Morgan Freeman is a good actor.
Nicholas Cage is a good actor.
Denzel Washington is a good actor.

Tom Cruise is an attractive guy who can recite lines. Not in the same league as good actors.

And he IS an idiot. Why do people act surprised when a famous person turns out to be a jerk? It's as if somehow his celebrity should be insurance against being an idiot...

I think research is important. When I have kids I'll do the research on vaccinations and make an educated decision instead of just going along with what the doctor said.

And exercise and vitamins can't fix mood disorders. When my depression got it's worst I was also bulimic and exercising constantly and popping vitamins like crazy. Sure the imbalanced electrolytes probably made the depression worse, but my point is you can't make generalizations about what will help a problem for everybody. Meds made a big difference for me. And everytime I had to try something new, I'd make sure to get on the internet and do my research on it.
