Too Many Guppy Fry

I did check with the DPI (I'm in Oz) and was allowed to release my (excess) rainbows into the dam (and creek) as they are a local species :)

But that's not the norm :)

We also seem to have non-native guppies in the waterways here that are likely released aquarium fish. Apparently they thought it was a good idea at the time, like the cane toad...

see, local species or not, the big thing is disease. there are diseases in the home aquarium that don't exist in the wild, and wild native fish won't have an immunity to it like ours do. it could completely decimate the population, even if the species you release is a native species.

You already have your 30 gallon tank maxed out with adult fish. Stop trying to color sort the fry for a while. Just leave them in the tank. Feed your tank a little less and you will find the babies disappear because they will be eaten by the adults. If you want to color sort to keep some of the babies you should get another tank to keep them in during the time they are being sorted. and try to find someone in your area that wants to buy fish to start the hobby or needs feeder fish. Usually you can find someone in your area that needs feeder fish to buy or at least will pick them up for free, to take the fish you do not want.
