HA! as if that were possible. :laugh:
I was just about to move my chocolate gouramis and dwarf neon rainbowfish from my ten gallon into a twenty gallon on saturday, when my friend asked me to go with her to some yard sales. 2 hours later...
A 55 gallon with hood/lights for $5!! :thud:
I have never had a tank that large before!

Of course it necessitated aquiring a whole new piece of furniture (free) and rearranging my livingroom, but heck!
I now have :
5 gal ~1 betta
a 10 gal ~ empty should be hosp/QT
a 20 gal ~ 3 Chocolate Gouramis and 2 Dwarf Neon Rainbowfish. ( soon to be more of each)
and a 55!! empty!!!
So many options now!
Could have a 55 gallon native fish tank!
Maybe shubunkin?
Imagine how many white cloud minnows!!LOL
So tempting to try discuss, because the Cgouramis require similar care...
I could have angelfish...
Oh man. Doesn't take much to make me happy :dance:

I Do have some actual questions.
1) any reason I can't keep the ten gallon running as a moderately planted tank with guppies or betta to 'keep it cycled' and Move the fish... somewhere... when I have to use it as a QT or Hospital tank?
2) What sort of hose could I use to refill the tank from the sink for PWC?
3) What would YOU do with all these tanks and these fish?
Thanks for letting me babble on. My friends are great, but they don't have much tolerance for listenning to all the different configuration possibilities that suddenly openned up...I have spared you most of that as well :) but if you have read this far, I am sure you can imagine.
 
LOL...Zazz, I have the same problem in trying to find folks who like to talk fish...lol...

It's always a good idea to have a tank handy to put a fish in that needs special care...so yeah, I would keep the 10 cycled.

They do have these "pythons" for water changes, but they can be expensive. You could try and find a used one on ebay though.

What would I do ?? LOL ! I'm doing all I can with what I have...lol....and I have one more tank that I would like to do....a tank for shellies....you see, I have this shelf under my latest 20long that needs a 15 gallon to fill.....shellies are my latest interest.

For a 55, I would be tempted to do discus, but I don't think I would have more than 3 in there (probably could't afford more anyway..lol)...in a heavily planted tank....with 2 pair of german blue rams and a good number of some colorful schooling fish that would do well in warmer water.
 
Cant give any stocking ideas. There are just too many ideas running threw me head

Maybe a used python... But I was thinking I could continue syphoning out the water as I have been, but save a lot of hauling by refilling through a length of hose from the sink. dechorinating the water of course. Those are good prices at big al's but, still out of my budget.
ANy reason a length of regular garden hose wouldnt be ok?

oh, i have aquired an octagonal 5 gallon. Where will this stop? My excuse is, AC was down, I can't be held responsible....

Zazz, if you get a hose that's made for use as a potable water line, like for an RV, it will be ok. otherwise, they usually have chemicals in the linings & such.
Haven't tried this myself, but read it on a thread way, way back...
You can also buy the clear tubing they use in pythons fairly cheap by itself. There was a DIY python on the DIY forum once...maybe do a search for it?

There are food grade hoses available in some places. Probably due to the high amount of people drinking from hoses.

As for the big tank, many white clouds, mmm that sounds nice. I just bought a 29 gallon and my white clouds are moving from their 10 into it. So their group will at least double in size.

How about moving the chocolate gouramis into the 55 gallon, plant heavily and have a huge school of them. Add a large school/shoal of cories to the bottom. That would be great.
 
My first thought was to have a huge school of chocolates in the 55 gallon. But since Have been using store bought RO waterfor 1/2 of their change water each week, I thought it would be too pricey for me.
I have time to figure out a way to do it though, as I save up for/ accumulate the necessary heaters/filters etc.
I Love cories, but I notice that the chocolates like to hang around near the bottom of the tank a lot of the time. I love to watch them curving around and poking into the rock features.
Someone who stays near the top, and is otherwise compatible ( likes 86F soft water, is mellow) would be the ideal tankmate. Maybe I'd just expand my rainbowfish school and add some ottos.
Then I could have the cories in the 20 gal. with...?
White clouds definitely rule, and I think that is what I will do with my ten gallon tank for now. (the chocolates are in the 20) Then keep the 5 gallon cycled for the quarentine/hosp tank, and move beta in with the white clouds when I need to use it...OR....

(1)5gallon w/1MBetta
(1) 5 gallon octagon currently just cool rocks and a 'peace palm' with its roots in the water. will probably have more plant roots and a couple of guppies
(1)10 gallon empty
(1) 20 gallon with Chocolate Gouramis and Dwarf Neon Rainbowfish
(1)55 gallon empty.
 
I was recently in a similar situation-- Oh happy dilema! I got a 75 gallon tank with everything included for $25! Of course I ended up having to get a different filter (that aquaclear sucked up one of the white clouds I was cycling with on the second day!) and I'm going to need an extra heater so the inadequate-wattage one on there now doesn't burn itself out, but it was still a great deal!

Right now I have 3 silver dollars, a pleco, an angel, and four platies in it. I'm planning to get more silver dollars and some swordtails, and I'm hoping to get some dwarf gouramis down the road.
