too much current?

I'd keep an eye on them for the moment. The clown is probably settling in, and will be more adventurous with time. As people above posted, there is a good chance of conflicts with the damsel, but it depends on the species as well.

As an editorial comment, it gets under my skin a little when people say that being members of the same family means the animals will behave the same. Would one have the same expectations of a Julidichromis as an oscar? Or a housecat and a tiger? Obviously, because they are grouped together, pomacentrids have biological similarities. When keeping them, though, it's important to recognize the differences.

What kind of damsel is it? Some are more territorial than others.

the damsel was a poor choice for a tank mate... most of them get mean, ugly, and they just aren't worth it. I'd keep the 20 gallon for the damsel and get a firefish, dottyback, goby, cardinalfish, or something in that nature instead to keep the clown entertained. ALSO MAKE SURE YOU CYCLE THE 46 GALLON with a fishless cycle... the 20 gallon, unless you have done a lot of water changes after your month long cycle, should have some reading for nitrates. nitrites and ammonia need to be at 0.

I'm not that new guys, and not all damsels are like that I've kept quite a few that were not mean at all. These two get along Great! And I agree mogurnda just because they are related doesnt mean they act the same. I will cycle their tank by seeding the filter and using LR. The damsel is a yellowtailed damsel. I love those guys. its the blackand white ones that give you trouble!
