would this be too much for a 20 with a biowheel, powerhead, and heater-

1 male/2 female sparkling gouramis (trichopsis pumilus, aka dwarf croaking gourami)
6 tetras (probably phantom or black emperor)
3 glass catfish (kryptopterus bicirrhis)
4 mix and match shrimp, probably cherry shrimp and ghost shrimp.

or would I have enough room for something like some rasboras? I got my hands on a 20 gallon, and I'm trying to plan out something to maximize success on my first "real" tank. Would this overcrowd or require extra filtration just to be safe?

All help appreciated greatly.

You'd really be pushing things without the rosbaras. The glass cats would probably be too big in the long run. 3 4" catfish would make a 20 extremely tight. and not leave much room for decor, and shrimp on the bottom. the gourami's and tetra's would be good, and constitute a fairly full load, add in the shrimp, and evne small cats like the smaller cries and you're pretty tight IMO. Overfiltering is always a good idea, as is excellent maintenance. I try not to use it as a way to add a few more fish, but more as a way to make maintenance and stability better in the tank. Just my thoughts, stocking is always arbitrary.

You could try a couple otos in there. They are smaller than the glass catfish and from what I understand do a good job "cleaning up".

I think that tank would be pretty well stocked with just the gouramis, tetras and shrimp. I'd pass on the glass catfish and go with a pair of otos to keep the tank sparkling clean.

I'll err on the side of caution and just go with the tetras, gouramis, and shrimp. I'll check out the oto cats. There will be other tanks in the future, and happier, well adjusted fish are the whole point of having an aquarium. Thanks for the input!
