too much water current!

I have a Penguin Bio Wheel Filter 100 (for up to 20 gallons) as well as an undergravel filter powered by a Rena Air 100 in my 10 gallon tank, but I'm afraid that the undergravel filter is creating too much current for the fish where it puts the water back out at the top of the tank. Does anybody know of where I can get an adjustable valve for my air pump, or have any suggestions for how to create less current? My tank is as full as I can possibly have it, so adding more water is not an option. I work at Petsmart, and I know we have some adjustable valves for multiple outputs, but none for a single output.

side note

would a substrate for live plants (people have mentioned flourite??) in addition to my aquarium gravel gunk up my under gravel filter?

You can use any of those multiple valves for your application. I would use a double valve and keep the one for your underground filter all the way open and crack the second valve to reduce the amount of air that goes to your filter. You do not want to just put a valve on the filter line and put back preasure on your pump it will reduce the life of your diafram in the pump and cause an early death to your pump. They make pumps that have reduction valves built in to them and they just blead the air off, but I am sure you do not want to spend the money on a new pump when you can fix your problem for a couple of bucks with a dual valve...
