All right, thought I'd throw this one out there to the masses:

What is on your top 10 easy/beginner/community fish (stock) list? Assuming a 20-29 gallon "beginner" tank...

1. Zebra Danio
2. Black Skirt Tetra
3. Platy
4. Guppy
5. Endler
6. Molly
7. X-Ray Tetra
8. Neon Tetra
9. White Cloud Mountain Minnow
10. Black Neon Tetra

1. Zebra Danio
2. Skirt Tetra (gold or black)
3. Neon Tetra
4. Australian Rainbow
5. Guppy
6. Platy
7. Serpae Tetra
8. Gourami
9. Glow lite Tetra
10. Angels

7. Serpae's can be nippy, so not THE best.
8. Some gourami's are aggressive, dwarf gourami's are sickly, and some are too big for the tank given.
10. Angels get nasty at breeding time, and can nom nom on smaller fish. A keyhole/bolivian ram would be a better choice here IMO.

Serpae's are only nippy when kept in groups of 8 or less. And in a 20G, u could keep up to 12 depending on other fish.

Here is my list

1) Zebra Danio
2) Platys/Swordtails
3) Guppies
4) Cherry Barbs(if kept in groups of 6 or more)
5) Silver Lyretail Mollys(or any other type)
6) Endlers
7) Neon or Glo-Light Tetras
8) Black Neon Tetra
9) Harlequin Rasboras
10) Rummy Nose Tetras

I would put angels but they aren't really great community fish for 20G, or 29G tanks.

Serpaes in my experience have never been nippy (in my tanks), they are tough little fish and easy to care for. I'm not saying that they aren't but mine have never done any nipping or chasing of another fish.
Gouramis, (I set myself up for this one) I meant to apply to Pearl Gouramis in particular, they are pretty easy going and durabale fish.
Angels - if you keep a group they can get nasty at breeding time. If you plan on having a pair or just an individual, they can last a while and are tough fish.

I don't have much luck with livebearers for some reason.

I've found serpaes to be hardy, adaptable and well mannered too. I've never had a bit of trouble with them.

Cherry barbs are nice too.

Please tell me no one is suggesting ALL of those fish as a stocking list for a 29...That's what I'm reading the first post as requesting, and in truth, I don't think a mish mash of 10 'beginner friendly' species will make for a successful tank.

If I were setting up a 29 community, I would go for a balance of fish for levels. Top level fish would be a single pearl leerhi gourami, mid-level fish would be a school (7-ish) of rasboras, and (5-6) kuhli loaches or one of the hardier pygmy cories for the bottom.

1. White Cloud Mtn. Minnows
2. Zebra Danios (inc. Albinos)
3. Serpae Tetras
4. Glowlight Tetras
5. Albino BN
6. Spotted Raphael Catfish
7. Swordtails
8. Cherry Barbs
9. Mollies
10. Neon Tetras (last because of need for pristine water parms)
