I'm going to be purchasing a Seaclear 50 gallon tank. What do you guys think our the top 3 filters? I'm new to this hobby, so thank you in advance. I'm sure this question has been asked a million times, so if you want to point me to another thread that's cool too.

Depends on whether you want a HOB or a canister filter. And it depends on whether or not you want a planted tank and how bug the bioload is and the types of fish you are going to choose. Some fish like lots of current and other hate it. For a 50 gallon I would probably choose 2 filters. A canister for the big stuff and an HOB for that extra bit of goodness.

do you think two Aquaclear 300's would work for a 50 gallon OR should I get two Aquaclear 200's? I'm new to all of those and I'm learning as I go. How does a Aquaclear 200 and a Pengiun 170 or the next size up sound?

hmm...I love aquaclears, but I dont think a 500 is needed. They are rated for tanks up to 150 gallons! IMO the 300 would work fine, it's rated for tanks up to 100 gallons...and has 300 gph turn-over rate.
