Being a newb ,I dont have a ro/di filter yet and I cheated and bought filtered ocean water from petco to start cycling a ten gallon nano. What water would you use to top off your tank should I trust the ro/di filter unit at the local grocer or by some bottled water (plus what kind) .I would be grateful for any advice.

Thanks

I would agree with Grins. If you can buy some from your LFS then use that until you can get your own unit which would be the best solution. I currently use 5 gallon jugs that I fill up at Safeway (grocery store). It's a little awkward to carry the 5 gallon jugs around full of water but it works for now.

No none of the pet shops do but a grocery does,I was just concerned about the quality from thier filters.I mean I dont have any live stock to lose but I do have a start of pods and algae along with a few snails that came with my live sand going so don't want to screw up my cycle in anyway.Guess I should of thought about that beforehand huh?

As long as the grocer store changes their filters on the RO/DI unit when they should, you'll be fine with that Svaha...Pose the question to them, see what they say...If they look at you dumb, then look elsewhere for RO/DI...lol

Agreed :D. The unit I use has a little sticker that is always changed when they change the filter. I have also tested the water that I get from them and it has zero ammonia, trites and trates so it works well.

Same with the machines at my Safeway here. I go there for my water because it is $0.57 cheaper per gallon than my LFS and I only need 10 gallons a month. Its only $0.43 a gallon and the filters on the unit seem to be changed once a month if not more.
