Sounds as if PetSmart has a liberal return policy. That's good to know.

A gift card wouldn't be a problem for me. With my fish, 2 dogs, and 2 Parrots (the feathered kind), there's no doubt I'd be using the card. LOL

If you go down and buy another one, take it out of the packaging and put the bad one in they will take it back for a refund with no problems.

LOL ive done something like this with ps2 games and block buster. it's a very good idea, maybe a lil dishonest but a good idea....you should do it and tell us how it turned out :thm:

Yeah, one time I didn't have a box with my cheap marineland heater. Turns out the guy at the register had the same heater and it crapped out on him a week earlier. So I got store credit.

Topfin is a petsmart brand. I have had the same thing happen to me with these heaters. I would return it and get a better quality heater, like a stealth or ebo.

Print out the online price and bring it to the store for pricematching. Youll be able to get a better heater at the same price than the topfin.

I've had to return 3 topfin heaters , one right after the other. Finally gave up on them and ordered a stealth at big als for much cheaper even with shipping and have never been happier except stealth doesnt have a little "light" to tell you it is on.

Heaters usually fail-unsafe (in my experience).

Ebo-Jaeger heaters are pretty good about not cooking your livestock.

I've heard a lot of good things about the Marineland Visi-Therm Stealth. I've heard bad things about the non-stealth visi-therm though.

Mine went bad on me and got stuck off. I took it back without a box but with the receipt and it turns out the cashier had the same one and it went bad on him too.

Not to mention it was chipping paint.

I beleive alot of heaters often have cheap switches/contacts in them that switch on and off the current with the temp and the contacts often weld together, and thats why they usually fail full-on.
