Judging by ur first photo they sold you a dying specimen. Next time check that the ends of the branches are covered with fleshy coral material. If you see any white exposed "blades" (coral skeleton) pull the plug before it melts down completely and stinks up your tank. In my experience the coral never recedes lower than the top edges of the outer skeleton. The hammer I purchased a week ago came out for a peak an hour after I placed it and has been extending more and more each day. Glad to read they did the honorable thing and gave you a credit.
