Total Pond/MTS/ramshorn snail removal plan

I have heard those the copper in those snail killers is enough to kill your plants as well. Bleaching will damage or kill your plants and won't work for some snail species (your plants will die before the MTS probably will). Pond snails, ramhorns, and MTS do not eat healthy plants. I think the copper gets into the silicon of the tank so it stays forever but I am not positive on that.

Assassin snails only eat other snails of a certain size (around their own size)

The link above has a lot of good info on assassin snails.

Love that article. To wash your plants you might also want to look into using potassium permanganate (KMnO4) http://www.fishpondinfo.com/plants/algaeinfo.htm#clean look under "Ornament and Plant Cleaning"

uh... i don't quite understand your method.

if you're going to completely empty the tank and dry it out, there is no reason to use any kind of invert killer.

a 20:1 bleach solution will work just fine on the plants as a 15-20 second dip, thats what i do to my new plants.

Interesting information! Thank you pik. Can I dose kMnO4 for my aquarium? lol Joking;but ya think?? Anyway, my assassin snails have been working their way making about 12 to 15 eggs already. Would the babies eat the small MTS?

Any more thoughts into this?

I had a problem with MTS. They were swarming in my tank until I added assassins. Now, they barely come out and I see a number of empty MTS shells laying about. I don't think assassins will completely clean out a tank of snails but they can come darn close to it. They wiped out about a dozen of my ramhorns, which wasn't what I wanted them to do.

Oh really? My assassin snails working! I see empty pond snail shells.

i just use my syphon hose when i do water changes and suck out the eggs or baby snails an away they go

or just pick out all the adults and let the killer snails do their job

I would guess the little assassin snails should eat the little MTS but I haven't read anything saying people have seen that. The baby assassins seem to hide in the substrate and rarely come out.
Is that true? Awww lol
