Totally off the wall Deco question.

I want to make my own figurines to go in my tank, but I want to be sure its not going to harm the fishies' environment. Can anyone give me an idea on what ISN'T aquarium safe media for this? What maybe is safe?

As an artist for decades, with one of my specialties being clay, I would say just plain old stoneware or terracotta will be fine. If you want to glaze, most commercial glazes are now lead-free. Just be careful with chipping.

The commercial decorations for aquariums are usually made from cast resin, colored with aquarium-safe pigments. Personally, I would stay away from resin unless you have alot of experience with it, since curing is critical--not done right and it's toxic as all get out!! Have fun! Hmm, just thought about sculpey--if it's baked in the oven long enough it may not be toxic to the fish. :dive2:

I considered Sculpy, since I have experience with it. I just really wasnt sure if it would be toxic to my tank . I had already kinda of tossed the resin idea out feeling like it would be more than I could handle.Since I want sort of the ruined statues feel to this stuff, glazing probably wouldn't be needed.
