Tragedy --- tank emptied need help

Got 2 of those sitting in my junk box at home Greg. They do not work at all! They stop the syphon for a second, then they "burp" and the flap opens a little and releases water.. this continues until your tank is done back syphoning. So it doesn't all rush back into your sump as once.. but it still happens very quickly, within a couple minutes.

Normally people rely on their sump only being 1/2 full and being able to handle the back syphon without overflowing.
 
Oh well, I've got my return very high in the tank and the water movement is being supplied with 4 MaxiJets with the upgrade kits. I hope this is enough water flow for the 90. Floor drain is the best idea I can think of and that's only there in the event the tank or sump breaks. May never happen but it's there.
 
Ouch.

Stories like this, then information from you guys make me cringe. I absolutely cannot justify a major overflow with water damage in my home for a SW tank..lol. I think I may just continue to go less sump/overflow until there is an overflow proof setup...haha!
 
Well, Dan, I decided to drill a drain in my floor (elevated home/ foundation and pier) and plumbed to feed out to the street gutter. SHhhh!! Don't tell the EPA!! :rofl:
 
Update:
went home for lunch and got 10 gallons of fresh water. The clam is definitaley gone (and just fyi it is very easy to tell when they are dead). The Raspberry chalice is likely a goner as well. Everything had eroded to the skeleton except for a very small section. The elk horn looked like it might be ok, but hard to tell. The millepora is gone (I am guessing, not totally white, but all color is gone... just brown now). About the only thing that looks like it may spring back is the toadstool leather. But I am going to put it all in the tank tonight and see if anything opens up.

The favia brain hasn't started to bleach yet (not like the chalice) so i am not sure if that is a good sign or what. We will have to see.
 
Sadly nothing made it. Thought maybe I would get lucky and save some corals but they were pretty much mush when I got home. There is one toad stool that may pull through and the kenya tree hasn't dissolved. The brain is gone though. As is the duncan and all the sps. Man this is a drag.

But, on the upside the lights, chiller, pumps, tank etc. all work. I bought some more live rock and rescaped the tank when I was refilling it. Will wait a while before adding anything else.
 
Don't forget to take photos! I sure feel bad for your loss. It sux big time!
 
I am going to take some pictures tonight to show the progress of the tank. The new rock really looks nice and should be a bit better for display purposes once things get rolling again. Thanks all.
 
wow, im so sorry this happened.. i swear, if we were in the same place, you could've put them in my tank till you got everything going back up..

reading about all this.. makes me scared for mine.. im new to sumps and such.. and will hopefully be picking up a larrge tank with all that plumbing.. but.. unsure of how to properly secure it..
again im sorry.. and.. i hope you like your new setup!
