I need help. My boyfriend has a 12 inch oscar in Toronto. He is going to be moving to Georgia soon. We are thinking about driving Dude from Toronto because we don't want to have to bring his 125 gallon tank on a plane, that'd be retarded. So, my question is this, would he be ok in a 10 or 20 gallon tank for the road trip? We really don't want to have to leave him Toronto, but is he going to be able to survive the trip?

I recently made a similar move although somewhat shorter. The drive from Toronto to Georgia should be a 2 day trip but with a couple of drivers you can do a oner.
I first put tank water in a 20 for the trip with the Oscar in the back seat. I put some tank water in two 5 gal gas cans. 1 for water changes during the trip and one to start the new tank upon arrival.
One unorthodox thing I did was to set up my laptop in the car and run a small halogon light and a fan from the USB to agitate the water. I did a couple of small water changes and kept some emergency chems in the car just in case.
Bruno made the trip fine and I could play games on the laptop while running the accessories.

ahh cool. Thank you for the advice. I've been freaking out about this. Now if I can just keep my driving from sloshing him around to much we'll be ok. lol
You might want to end up buying a 30 or 40 gallon rubbermaid from any ol' store for around $5 That way you can fill it 3/4 (room for sloshing), a lid to help keep the water in, ability to drill holes in the lid for air tubes, not worry about it breaking. Also, the darkness might help to keep your little guy calmer...
Also, instead of tank water, use fresh water of the same ph/quality/temp, get some ammo-lock and dose the water...need to keep those ammonia levels down for the trip. Bring a few extra jugs of water for some PWC along the way, and be ready to set up the tank ASAP. Keep the gravel and biowheel or where-ever your main load of bacteria are moist/wet so you don't go through a large cycle.
About 2-3 days before you begin the trip, don't feed your fish at all...also will help keep the waste levels down for the trip. Good luck and God speed.
