Transporting Fish During Winter.

OK, but doesn't Ryosuke need to keep the water with the new fish being transported home at or near the temp it was in the store in order that the fish doesn't get sick? Its LFS tank water, not Ryosuke's tank water.

If I am at my LFS during the winter, I will have a coat and probably a sweater to stay warm while I'm outside. I travel in a heated car so the extremes really only need to be dealt with for a few seconds. Usually, if I pick up new fish, I just close my coat around the bag of fish and me. My body helps keep the inside of the coat warm and the short exposure before you are in the car means the bag of water and fish never really changes temperature during the trip. I leave them inside my coat until I am in my home so they also are not exposed to extreme heat by being the wrong place in the car. The fish don't know any different and I don't mind looking a little silly to get them home alive.

:iagree: I live in Fargo ND, and we can get -30 during the winter.

Just put the bag inside your coat, like ghjhreed, and go home.

LOL, that's a good idea guys! And double bag em so there's no leaks. No slamming on the brakes to cause the seatbelt to tighten up though!:)

Pinkertd, I am living in New Jersey also :)

I normally buy fish from a Petco, which is about 30 mins away from my dorm, because the other LFS are terrible in my area. Anyway, the main problem I am having is not about the temperature of the car, but probably the long walk from the parking deck to my dorm. My college has a small campus; however, it still takes about 10 - 15 mins to get from one side to the other side of the campus. That is the reason why I want to know how other people transport the fish during winter.

I don't have quite the long walk that you do, but i understand the dorm/parking garage dilemna.... any shot of you being able to pull up in front of your dorm just to unload the fish and put them in your room and then go drop your car off? Or have a friend out in front of your dorm when you get there and have them put them in your room, and then you dont even have to get out of the car (this is what me and my friends do)
