Hi I have a 1 hour drive to go to transport my goldfish to his new home in a biiig new tank he is going to looove. What do I put him in for the ride and how do I make it easier for him?
Thanks
I would put him in a bag. He should be fine in an hour though. You must put that bag inside a paper bag so that the fish won't see anything around him. That way the fish won't be very stressful.
I fully second the rubber tub/tupperware idea. I always go to the local supermarket and buy the huge bowls that are 2 for $4. I successfully transported three 6" goldfish 100 miles that way, and they stayed in the bowls for at least 3 hours with no problems.
Addendum: Don't feed them for 24 hours before the transport. That way you'll eliminate most of the pooping that will foul up their water during the trip.
IME a rubbermaid tub is not absoulutely neccisary. 1 Goldfish will be fine in a large bag for an hour or so. Fill the bag 1 part water 2 parts air. Do not feed the fish 24hrs before transport put the bag in a brown bag or box to minimise stress.
