I honestly don't understand why the specific statistics regarding the mortality rate of indigenous people when contacted by outsiders matters. The fact remains that these people have no say in whether or not they're contacted, and have little tangible good to gain from the interaction. Granted, we can say that contact with the modern world affords them access to modern amenities, but that's making some pretty sketchy judgement calls about the nature of consumption, and raises questions of whether they'd be better off living like us, or we'd be better off living like them. I don't think there are any reasons beyond the exploitative to seek these indigenous tribes out. It's not like contact with them is necessary to protect their ancestral lands, nor is contact a guarantee that their way of life will be protected. All it causes is a bunch of fame for the discoverer, and a bunch of heartache for the tribespeople.
