can I trim my micro sword if so how much can I take off at a time, will this encourage new runners?

Micro Swords typically take a long time to start growing, how old is it? You can trim the Micro Sword, sometimes this helps. How much you can trim off depends on how big it is, a little bit off the top should help.

5 or 6 inches tall. I'm dosing with the flourish line, and flourite is my substrate. I have 80 watts/29 gallons 6700K

So how much were you thinking about trimming, an inch? That would be okay. I don't know if it's bad for the plant to trim more but if you want more I think it'd be good to be cautious and just take off a bit at first, give it some time to recuperate and then trim some more.

I chop mine back all the time. I hear micro-sword can be tricky but seriously, it is running amok in all my tanks, I throw out handfuls every week. Sometimes I just keep some of the new off shoots and discard the entire parent plant, especially at the front of the tank.
