will trimming anubias and java fern leaves that have algae on them poison my cherry shrimp?

Nope. Just cut and pull them out of the tank.

I've heard of losing RCS after disturbing the substrate in an established tank. The speculated cause of which the release of once trapped gases and spike due possibly to roots tabs and alike maybe even mineralized soil. I haven't had the problem personally but know of many who have.
