I've been looking into breeding some of the "Instant Pets" and I'm pretty interested in triops. I'm thinking that I'll use a 5g tank with the smallest grain of gravel there is. But I don't want to use sand, I sand would be harder to siphon eggs from. I'll get them to lay eggs, collect and dry them, and save/sell the eggs.

Also, any conceivable science fair projects I could use the triops for?

it's just animals in general, people too. I think it's because of my new hannibal lector easy bake oven...

i had them once way back when...they never worked haha. get some sea monkeys instead!
Artemia are harder. They need all the right PPM and SG saltwater crap with x amount of teaspoons per gallon... And they need heat.

Triops, especially the rarer kind I want to get can hatch in my 65 degree house.

Ive had them many times and they are easy to look after. IMO it would be easier to have sand as the triops search through it looking for food and they eggs are incredibly tiny and you just have to gather some of the sand after you can tell some have been laid. Then dry it out for at least a month and submerge it in water and its a new generation :) good luck!

I would say for a science fair idea to just run a life cycle of them. you could even make a live display of the age groups. Just an idea..
