I want to hatch triops using the method with a desk lamp for heat. The only place I can do this is on my dresser (or else my cat will mess with it). So I was wondering if the color of the light used to heat the water matters? I'd like to use a green bulb if it generates enough heat. Thanks for any input!

I have hatched trips with a simple electric heating pad meant for a bad back. I would estimate that to be around 92 degrees. I would put the container with some water there (making sure the water is lower than room temp to start with) and turn on the green bulb. After a day check the temp of the water. If it is good to go for hatching, go for it. Otherwise, try a different bulb.

I hatched some with just a warm windowsill. What temp are you looking for? Seedling heating mats generally heat to around 87F. That might work. From there, a sunny exposure or a good CFL should work IIRC.

The color shouldn't matter at all.
