Trip to the Amazon!

It sounds like it should be an awesome experience.

I will, Pitt. I have no idea how many of what I am going to be able to even find, much less bring back. My uncle has actually smuggled fish out of Peru (shhh...), but I haven't really gotten into the details yet. I know I will be setting up a tank, not a big one, but I want to bring back apistos, cories, maybe some plecos, and probably some tetras. Angels would be nice, but I'm worried about shipping them.

Wild Angels are pretty delicate, I think you will have better luck with the other fish you are thinking about collecting.

When you know details of locations you should post and you may get suggestions of fish you had not even thought of getting.

That's why I would like to bring back some scalare, but don't think it's possible. As soon as I find out details, I will post.

You know, the crappy part about this (and yes, there is a crappy part) is that I'm going away to college in 2 years, so I won't be able to really appreciate my fish, and I don't know if my parents will be able to take care of wild fish. I can't wait until after college and I don't have to think about this anymore.

I'm on the same boat as you. My dream tanks are going to wait till after college!

What countries are you going to? Make sure to get export permits cuz the last thing you want is to get arrested down there. Sounds like you are going to have a blast though!

I am still going to setup a tank, but I know a retired doctor who I used to work for and has a ton of tank, some of which are empty, so I may be moving some of my fish over to his house while I'm at college.

Abarilot - I don't know the details yet, but I know all about how you need permits to export anything and maybe even for catching some. My uncle told me that we are netting bats and birds and catching herps and fish, so I'm assuming some of the permits will be taken care of.

Sound like a trip of life time! Have fun, be safe and take lots of pics when you go!

Sounds awesome! I got to spend about a week in the Ecuadorian Amazon last summer, but we barely saw any fish and I definitely didn't get to bring any back. I did however get to eat some ;)
