Has anyone had any experience with Triple Red Apisto fish? I'm looking into these as smaller easy going tank mates for Blue German Rams. They sound like they have a similar temperament, size and water parameters. Am I wrong?

Also on my research list is Rocio octofasiata "Electric Blue Dempsey". I have absolutely no clue what these fish are like, but according to the site where I stole this picture these fish grow to about 1 1/2" and are much more docile than regular Jack Dempseys. It sounded good to me... other than the price tag. $39.99! :eek3:

Any helpful hints or personal reports about these fish would be appreciated!

If im correct, jack dempseys grow to about 8". And not 2". They might arrive at 2" but they'll grow well bigger than that. The apiistos you mentioned seemed fine tank mates for the german blur ram as long as they have enough space for the bottom.

Upon further inspection of the site that contained the electric blue dempsey, it states that they grow up to 9" (not 1 1/2" like the front page listed). They may have poorly worded the shipping size of the fish as the adult size of them. They also contradicted themselves again by saying that they are docile fish and later saying that they are not community tank safe and can be bullies. Oh well...

Rams like it considerably warmer than most apistos appreciate.

Tue but you can keep them at a temperature of 80*F they would be fine.

I had an electric blue jack dempsey... they do grow big (I've seen some at like 8") and are more peaceful than the regular jack dempseys, but I wouldn't call them community fish at all. When mine was little it lived with angel babies and then with discus, and never harmed a thing.

Eventually I moved him to a 40gal tank when he was around 4" with angelfish and some swordtails... then I saw a little oscar. He killed pretty much all of my swordtails in that same night, and was picking on my angels. So I moved him again to a larger 90gal tank with slightly more agressive tankmates (silver dollars, pictus cats, rainbow shark) and he didn't get into fights but looked depressed? He did try to pick on them initially but I guess he eventually gave up, didn't go out of his spot not even to eat... he got darker and then he died. :x

So, verdict of the story...... I have no idea

EBJD are "docile" in comparison to regular jacks. My guess is that is what the site meant. Docile does not mean community safe :)
