What kind of tropical flakes do you feed your fish?

Depends on the fish if you mean what type of flakes. Some are meant for specific fish (such as bettas). But I assume you may be wanting to know the brand? In that case for my community fish I use all available types at my LFS. I just like to rotate foods so the fish get a variety. Most commonly available foods are safe and a fine choice though certain ones like Hikari (sp?) seem to get very good reviews. I have Wardley, Hagen and Tetra.

I use ones made by BrineShrimpDirect.com

IMO best flakes on the market and their GP larval diet rocks. My rainbowfish -- actually ALL my fish -- love Earthworm Plus and Plankton Gold.

New Life Spectrum...nothing better!

I feed Tetramin Pro Tropical Crisps as part of their diet. Every fish that we have loves them. We vary their diet greatly though and also feed sinking shrimp pellets, Hikari algae wafers, Hikari sinking wafers, bloodworms, peas, cucumber, zuccini and cut up shrimp from the seafood counter at the supermarket. Obviously we don't feed these all at once, we just offer variety. They do get the tropical crisps every day though....

i stopped feeding flakes and make my own food now.

i use various veggies, some shrimp, and steam them on the stove, then put it all in the blender and blend it to smoothie consistancy, then mix a couple packets of knotts unflavored gelatine with about 1/2c. of hot water and mix it all together. let it cool in a 13x9" pan lined with plastic wrap and cut it into little squares.

this way i can control what my fish eat, and make sure they're not getting preservatives and nasty stuff, plus the gelatine texture is better for their digestion.

Consider adding more fish-based ingredients to that, plus a few drops of liquid infant vitamins....and raw is better than steamed.

i'm aware of that. i added about two cups of veggies and 10 decent sized shrimp (about 1.5" long minus heads and tails) left the shells on the shrimp for calcium. and i steamed it just until it was tender and the shrimp had JUST turned pink, and i used the hot cooking water to mix the gelatine.

cooking it helps break down the cell wall of the veggies which makes it easier to digest. believe me, in a year or so i plan on going to college for natural medicine and nutrition.
