I have recently downgraded from a 75g to a 20g long simply for to make moving easier (I am in College and will probably move 2 or 3 times in the next 3 years) The problem is I am trying to spend as little money as possible and use as many parts from the 75 as I can. Therefore I am lighting this tank with a 175w MH. I built a 12" high canopy for this lighting and it worked great, temp was under control and I only had to top off twice a week. The problem is the canopy was as big as the tank and looked ridiculous (wife cracked the ol'whip) so i need a new option. I cannot hang the fixture and cannot afford another lighting system. Please help me figure something out!!

/don't ask for pics the old canopy is gone.
//tank is on my desk so the MH cant blind me.

Ummm... you can have something like this

That just might work. I'm going to get to building and see what I can come up with. Thanks a lot!!

alternatively what i did was hang one of those shelves with the wall brackets where you can adjust the height. simple attach the brackets to the wall, fit in the supports and then put the wood across. Underneath attach the lighting fixture to the wood.

i would go this way as well. both work though...most important make sure its safe and sturdy either way.
