Trout project update

Just make sure that you don't use any medications on them ;).

Given the time taken to grow them, the food to feed them with, electricity costs, etc etc you might just end up with the worlds most expensive trout dinner :D

Man, if I ever see one "this is what I plan to do and I'm really excited and I wanted to share this idea with everybody" post on here that DOESN'T have at least 6.5 billion "that's a horrible idea and you should be shot for even considering it" replies then I swear I'll DIE.

I know everybody here has good intentions, but I also know what it feels like to get excited about something, and share it with people and then they all have something negative to say about it. There's always lots of good, positive responses with constructive criticism too... No idea is perfect, obviously...

At any rate Gambusia, I hope all goes well for you! I remember reading your earlier thread discussing this idea, and I'm glad to see you're going to go through with it... If the person at the hatchery says you can keep 5 of them, I'm sure he's probably correct, given the right conditions and filtration... I mean, what does he do for a living? Oh yeah... he grows trout. He MIGHT just know. hahaha... Good luck, and enjoy!

Sometimes the challenge of doing something yourself is worth the extra money. I just finished brewing my own beer. After buying all the gear, it cost me twice as much as just going to the store, but it was well worth it just to say "I made this and it's not terrible".

Pirate, I think that a lot of the earlier comments missed the fact that this was a dinner plan as opposed to a stocking plan. There are a fair number of people who pop up talking about the twenty bettas they're gonna put in a 5g tank (okay, I'm exagerrating), but it's enough that I think that some of us have a first reaction to look for fatal flaws in the plan.

Good luck Gambusia, let us know how it turns out!

Chunk, send me that recipe!

@Happychem: Fair enough... I mean, I'm sure there have been a fair share of completely rediculous ideas proposed here... And I understand that those who are concerned are also concerned about the safety, well-being, and happiness of the fish in question! Maybe I jumped the gun a bit on my comments, I hope that nobody was offended by my comments... I just don't want to see anybody discouraged from trying what may turn out to be a great project just because somebody thinks otherwise!

As far as the beer goes - I fully agree with you! There's always a sense of pride and accomplishment that goes along with a job well done..

And oh my.... what I wouldn't give for some fresh trout right about now! hahaha

cough.....moonshine eh?

watch that blindness
