So, i'm hearing mixed things about paradise fish. Can anyone tell me if it is true or not?

1. Paradise fish can live in very small aquariums.
2. They can live in extremely cold water like 50-60F
3. Males can live with females.

True or False?????

Thanks!

Nobody??? :( I was thinking about getting one for my dad for x-mas...

1. Paradise fish can live in very small aquariums.
How small are we talking here? I wouldn't put one in something smaller than a 10, but they are fairly active for gouramis and a 20 would be better.
2. They can live in extremely cold water like 50-60F
Yes, they do okay in cold water. Mine were living outside in the summer where it dropped down to 50-60 at night. I don't know how well they'd do it in long term though.
3. Males can live with females.
Sometimes. It depends on your male. I've keep the sexes together in larger tanks (30+) with minimum conflict. Smaller tanks will probably leave you with a shredded female.

Like a 2.5gal? The LFS has one in a 1/2 gal bowl.

I have 5 juvenile paradise fish living in a 10 gallon. I know, not ideal. I'm still figuring out what to do with some of them. They have been getting along fine, but there is a definitely a "boss". I've got plenty of tall stem plants for getaways, and none of them are getting beat up. Just a chase once in awhile. I've got more males than females it appears, and hopefully i can get a pair!

I would not trust below 60*F. They can tolerate fluctuatin of temp better than other cousins which are found in warmer water though. They do grow up to 4".

I don't know much about paradise fish but it is my understanding that NO fish can live in a 1/2 gallon bowl. Personally I would not keep any fish in anything less than a filtered 2.5 gallon tank.

Not true. They need a 20 gallon because they are active.
2. They can live in extremely cold water like 50-60F
This is true. They cannot be kept in hot water over the long term and should be maintained at 24C or less (although avoid excessively cold temps such as 7C).
3. Males can live with females.
This is true. Paradise fish can be kept as a pair, but dont try mixing more than two fish of different sexes.

True or False?????

okay so would this idea work? I wanted to get my dad a betta but obviously, bettas need heat. So i thought paradise fish would be a better choice. This is the setup i want to do

2.5 to 5.5 gallon tank
Plants:
duckweed
hornwort
java fern
Deco:
driftwood or coconut hut
small slate cave ( just leaned up against the wall of the tank)

How many paradise fish can i have in a 5.5? I'm sure i can only have one in the 2.5 right? What kind of paradise fish?
