I've just noticed that my Clown is starting to lay down on the sand every so often. Everytime I walk up to the tank he starts to move again, but shortly there after hes back on the sand standing still. Is he getting sick? what could be the problem.

Everything water quality wise has been the same.

except I cant get my Nitrates down from 20.

wow, 20 is getting up there in a SW tank. do you have live rock? are you doing regular water changes? What is your fishload and tank size?

20 is high, but certainly not excessive enough to effect a clown fish like that...What is your ammonia reading at? Could do with the answers to Clawlans quetions aswell please..

simple way to bring ATES down is water changes.

I have to disagree there. Mine are still upwards of 20 and I am religious about 10% a week. My FW tank is the same, even after 50% change they are up in the 20 range. I am using tap water tho, until the RO unit I just ordered arrives...

Really? I do PWC and they are below 10 I do use RO/DI water and rinse out frozen foods before feeding the fish. 20 is high but not high enough to kill or make the fish start acting crazy.

i agree, the nitrates have to be pretty darn high to affect the fish, because nitrates don't bother fish like nitrites and ammonia do
