"true" schooling fish

Actually there is a difference. Shooling fish stay tight, and mimick each other's movement. Shoaling fish hang out together, but don't mimick the movement of each other, they also are much more likely to go off away from the rest of the group.

I'm not the greastest at explaining this I'm sure someone will pitch in and explain it better.
no, you gave the best explaination for it.

The term school or shoal is used interchangably for a group of fish, and are just spelling variations. The term schooling and shoaling are used interchangably in the literature for a group of fish moving in mass together.

In literature yes, but scientifically they are different terms.

Brilliant Rasboras?

My dad has a 125g with a group of about 20 Brilliant Rasboras (and many other fishies) and they school beautifully! I would love to have a tank big enough for a group like that!

hmmmm... well, if I were you, i'd go with a small school of harliequin rasboras. they are tight schoolers IME.

notice how we disproved it. scientifically schooling and shoaling are two different things.
