Well, at last my laid back Chinese Algae Eaters have shown their true colours. They're tearing up the tank and harrassing my catfish. Time for them to go. The problem is netting them! They are extremely quick and hide in the plants. I can remove a bit from the tank but the plants are fairly thick. Any suggestions of how to get these fish out of my aquarium??

no, chinese algae eaters are nocturnal, so if anything they will be just, if not more, active than when the lights are on. I suggest using two nets. use one to drive the fish into the other.

They like caves. Set up a PVC cave for him. When he is out, chase him and when it goes in its cave let it be, it will learn this is its refuge. When it thinks it is safe in the cave, that time you chase him, quickly put a net over one opening and your hand over the other and lift the whole thing out.

2 nets works sometimes, usually mine hides in a piece of holley rock so I just have to take the rock out and shake it over the net. The PVC idea sounds good too. How old is your CAE? Im wondering how much longer I can keep mine without him messing with the others. He is by himself now in a 30.

Well, a lot of patience and two nets did it. Thanks for the great tips. They are quick little buggers. My LFS took them back for me. Its an independant store that is really great that way. My largest one was about 3.5 to 4 inches long and he was fine with the other fish up until a couple of days ago. He began to persistently stalk and suck on to my 3 corydoras catfish to the point they were starting to look stressed. I think I had these CAE's for only 4 or 5 months. The second CAE was a bit smaller at about 2.5 inches and he was fine with the other fish up to this point. I took him out as well because I figured he too would soon become a bully.

i had one hell of a time trying to get mine netted so i could move him to the bigger tank. i used 2 nets and it was easier, but not easy if you know what i mean.
