Well, technically, the Kelvin rating doesn't matter to the plants, only the wattage. Kelvin rating is more important to how *you* view the tank... if you like more whites/blues, go high (6700k-10000k), or if you like more yellow, go lower (less than 6700k).
Realistically tho, you might want to consider 10000k as an upper limit. 10000k is *extremely* white. I've got 4 tanks with kelvins ranging from 4000 to 10000 and I find I enjoy the look of the 6700k+ bulbs a lot more.
