I've been in a self conflict about giving some or all of the swordtail fry to an lfs, because I want to go for an asian theme. I know I can't keep all of them, but how many would be reasonable to keep when I add the redtailed shark?

I know this might sound ridiculous to some, but there's smething these little guys have that makes me feel responsible for whatever happens to their lives. They are so cute and inquisitve in that big tank. Another things I notice is that they seem to not be growingg as fast as one in the group. One is almost an inch long now, the others are less than that. Pecking order, or is there something that is affecting their growth? It's a big tank, but I just wonder why they haven't grown more, unless they're taking their time...?

On another note, I was at a petstore the other day picking up crickets for my gecko, when I snuck in to peek at the redtailed sharks. They told me last time I was there that they had been treating them for ick, and they hadn't been on display. Well, they were this time, and they were cute little guys, about 2 inches long each. It's funny how their mouths are almost constantly moving into nooks and crannies in the gravel for food. I'm not going to get the shark from that store, I know of a better location to get them, I don't want to risk getting ick in my tank.

I understand how you guys feel too! My husband discovered some fry in my 10 gallon from a female platy I had that died...it was pretty cool because I thought all of her babies got eaten. It looks like there's about 10 of them. It's funny because the betta (lazy thing that he is) doesn't bother them at all and neither do the white clouds. I'm going to keep any that survive to adulthood. The female was a pretty shade of solid blue with no black markings at all, and some of the fry are already turning blue, one even has the black fins and tail of the 'wagtail' platies. I wonder if it will be blue too...I've never seen a blue wagtail platy before. Are they at all common? I haven't been able to find many pictures of them online.

I've never seen a blue platie before !! If I ever do see one, I might change my mind about platies....lol....(I don't get them only because they are so common I hate going in a fishstore and about all they have are guppies, platies and swordtails... :D )
